MOMART summer school is aimed at presenting and discussing issues such as theory of restoration as applied to modern materials and contemporary art, restoration intervention procedures, preventive conservation, diagnostic investigations, authentication, risk assessment, collection management, fruition and valorisation. All training sessions will be implemented within the premises of the "Casa Museo Remo Brindisi" a fantastic Museum located right on the beach of Lido di Spina - Comacchio (Ferrara).
Remo Brindisi was a famous contemporary artist. His "Alternative Museum" was inaugurated and opened to the public in 1973 and was designed by the Architect Nanda Vigo with two distinct functions. The first to be used as a holiday home for Remo Brindisi and his family and the second as a museum to house his rich art collection.
Other than the training sessions MOMART School foresees the organisation of practical laboratory sessions aimed at presenting to students the application of different diagnostic techniques directly applied to the study of some of the art objects exhibited within the Casa Museo Remo Brindisi.

Learning objectives

At the end of the MOMART Summer School students will have acquired a broad overview of issues concerning the preservation and study of modern materials and contemporary art.
In particular a deeper understanding of theory of restoration as applied to modern materials and contemporary art, restoration intervention procedures, preventive conservation, diagnostic investigations, authentication, risk assessment, collection management, fruition and valorisation as conceived at an international level will be acquired by learners. 

Target group and prerequisites for admission

Conservators, restorers, conservation scientists and museum and collection managers holding a university degree at both a  bachelor or Masters level.
A deep speaking and understanding knowledge of the English language is required.

The application must include:

1. The application form completed in all sections
2. A motivation letter (max 1 page, 1500 characters) in which the applicant explains clearly reasons for entering the course.
3. A brief curriculum vitae (including language skills, and any publications).

General information

MOMART is structured into both lectures and laboratory sessions. Lectures will take place from 3.0 to 7.0pm whereas laboratory sessions will be delivered from 8.0 to 10.pm.

Lectures will present and discuss issues such as:

• History and theory of restoration of contemporary art
• Conservation-restoration in practice
• Types of objects in collection, condition survey, preventive conservation
• Scientific examination of modern materials and contemporary art
• Contemporary artists and science
• Obsolescence in contemporary art

Laboratory sessions will deal with:

• Scientific examination of modern materials and contemporary art (non-destructive techniques)
• Scientific examination of modern materials and contemporary art (micro-destructive techniques)

Credits and evaluation

A total of 3 credits ( 30 hours) belonging to the SSD CHIM12 are assigned to the training and laboratory sessions.

Admission and fee
The registration fee is 400€

The MOMART School is opened to a maximum of 20 students.

The registration fee includes the provision of some didactic materials as well as accommodation and lunch meal from Monday 18 to Friday 22, July.

The Museum premises are equipped with two computer stations with Internet access.
